News has broken that fan-favorite actors Jennifer Lawrence and Josh Hutcherson are returning to their iconic characters in the newest chapter of the Hunger Games film series, titled The Hunger Games: Sunrise on the Reaping. The film is currently in production.
An Important Comeback for the Franchise
The actors are returning as Katniss Everdeen and Peeta Mellark, respectively. It is believed their appearance will likely occur in a flash-forward sequence, considering the main film series concluded with their characters living in peace.
This marks the sixth film in the global Hunger Games franchise.
The Source Material
Sunrise on the Reaping draws its story from a newly published work by series creator Suzanne Collins. It acts as the follow-up prequel after 2023's The Ballad of Songbirds & Snakes. For this project is Francis Lawrence, who was behind the majority of the previous films in the series.

The film's narrative are set 24 years before the first Hunger Games, centering on a young Haymitch Abernathy. Haymitch, who would later become Katniss's mentor, is portrayed as a tribute in the deadly 50th Hunger Games.
