The Iconic Puzzle Game Wouldn't Succeed at The Game Awards — Another Award Type Might Solve This

Each time a significant honors show approaches, one notices a demand to include additional classifications to honor underappreciated efforts and fill the passions of followers who have specialized interests.

Another commentator made the case advocating for terror-themed awards. That would rule. Equally deserving are board games, representing a passionate advocate's mission. Yet I need to apologize in advance when I prioritize just as with other dedicated enthusiasts, I have a cast-iron argument backing this proposal is the most urgent and significant. The demand is this: There should be a classification for brain-teasing titles.

The Genre Classification Challenge

Classifying creative works defies precise measurement; it remains highly personal, and typically start arguments concluding with vague boundaries. It's understandable that movie academies avoid this approach. Yet it remains an unavoidable compromise in the world of video games, that demonstrate such variety they hardly constitute one unified medium.

To recognize the complete range of interactive entertainment excellence to receive acknowledgment, while allowing diverse titles to compete fairly, classification by type becomes crucial.

Present Award Structure

Leading game ceremonies currently feature genre categories for Action-oriented games, Adventure-action titles, RPG experiences, Combat games, Sim/Strategy, and Sports/Racing games. Collectively, these classifications effectively encompass a lot of ground, making space possible for numerous titles.

This doesn't apply to puzzle games. No appropriate category exists to accommodate them. Examine these examples from outstanding current releases, each quite distinct: structural challenges from a specific release, fast-paced pattern recognition of another game, thought-provoking social scenarios of a third title. Which classification works among existing types? Nowhere, that’s where.

Recognition Challenges

Many instances occur excellent brain-teasers published annually that have no home in entertainment awards, if they accidentally match for categories like Handheld titles, Virtual reality experiences, or the intensely contested small studio competitions.

  • A renowned logic title received no recognition completely during that awards season
  • Another creative title was excluded in 2019
  • Popular arranging title received no acknowledgment in 2021
  • Just some puzzle games managed to sneak into small studio or handheld classifications

Value of Brain-Teasers

Frequently they represent compact experiences, however the design in brain-teasers holds tremendous importance. Famous handheld logic titles count as most engaged experiences globally maintaining this status for many years.

The famous puzzle experience challenges popular creative games claiming status as best-selling game of all time; it’s also in the running for top gaming experience. Logic titles represent cornerstones to the art of video games, and engaging with almost every other genre.

Recommendation and Reasoning

Logic titles wouldn't face that issue. One could readily select a field of five engaging, different, qualified experiences each ceremony simply — or rather, with difficulty, because you’d have to leave numerous deserving experiences.

And to reiterate, these are games lacking appropriate categories at major gaming awards. Puzzle game makers operate at the demanding boundary interactive creation, producing among essential manifestations of gaming itself. Similar to cinema stunt performers, they warrant appreciation. Let’s not keep them waiting generations.
